The National Veterans Creative Arts Festival runs this week in Fayetteville, Ark. from Oct. 17 to 23. The event is an opportunity for U.S. veterans receiving care from a Department of Veterans Affairs medical facility to showcase their talents in art, music, dance, drama and creative writing. More than 100 veterans are expected to participate in the Creative Arts Festival this year.

Festival celebrates therapeutic power of the arts

The Creative Arts Festival is one of several of the VA's annual rehabilitation events and is presented in a joint effort with the American Legion Auxiliary and Help Hospitalized Veterans. This year, the fair is hosted by the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks in Fayetteville, Ark.

The event celebrates various rehabilitation programs for veterans that focus on the therapeutic benefits of the art.

"This annual festival highlights the wonderful work that is accomplished throughout the year in VA's creative arts therapy programs and local competitions across the nation," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki.

The event will culminate in a live art exhibition and gala stage show at the end of the week.
