The United States and Britain, which have a long tradition of military cooperation, are partnering to create a new Service Personnel Task Force dedicated to supporting servicemembers, veterans and their families, the White House announced on May 25.

The task force will be led by the U.S. Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Dr. Clifford Stanley, and the British Minister for Defense Personnel, Welfare and Veterans, Andrew Robathan. It has three main areas of focus: linking current and former servicemembers and their families to local communities, supporting veteran education and vocational training, and offering health care, rehabilitation and mental health services to injured servicemembers.

"As our servicemen and women have stood shoulder to shoulder in recent operations, so the U.S. and UK will stand together in recognizing the sacrifices made by them and their families and in ensuring that we give them the best support possible," the White House said in a press release.
