In support of Suicide Prevention Week, which was September 4 through 10, the Department of Veterans Affairs is working to raise awareness about resources for veterans in crisis.

The VA is sponsoring nationwide seminars, health fairs and information sessions aimed at educating veterans and their families about suicide prevention. In addition, the VA provides year-round resources for veterans, including a 24-hour crisis line and an online list of warning signs of suicide risk.

Veterans Crisis Line helps thousands in need

The VA's theme for Suicide Prevention Week, "Changing the Legacy of Suicide: Success Before Stress," highlights efforts the VA has made to prevent suicide and provide resources for veterans, a VA press release reported.

The Veterans Crisis Line has helped more than 450,000 callers and an anonymous online chat system has served more than 20,000 veterans, according to the VA. For more information on suicide prevention services offered by the VA, refer to the press release, "VA Observes Suicide Prevention Week."
