Today, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced a new VA program to provide mentoring for Veteran-owned small businesses. To start, the VA selected twenty initial mentor-protege teams to participate in the program which aims to "provide business assistance in various skill areas and foster long-term business relationships".This program joins the others the VA already offers for veteran small-business owners--something that helped the VA earn an "A" rating from the Small Business Administration.
In addition to building business acumen, the protege firms also benefit when bidding for future contracts with the VA which satisfies a goal to award government contracts to qualified Veteran-owned small businesses. The VA plans to select additional mentor-protege pairs to participate approximately every six months.
