The Department of Veterans Affairs announced that its Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) has received accreditation by the nonprofit Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP).
The HRPP works to ensure ethical and scientific standards are used in research projects that focus on veterans and their health. The VA has more than 100 sites approved to conduct research, and the VA's Central Institutional Review Board, part of HRPP, is responsible for overseeing those projects, which include clinical trials and other human research.
'Highest level of protection' for veterans in VA research
Dr. Joel Kupersmith, VA's chief research and development officer, said, "The new accreditation gives veterans who take part in VA studies reassurance of the protections they are afforded. Veterans who volunteer for VA research can expect the highest level of protection."
