Four bills protecting veterans' rights were unanimously passed today by the House Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity. The legislation will move on to the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs for consideration and may be debated as early as May 12, according to a press release from the committee.

The legislation includes H.R. 1383, Restoring GI Bill Fairness Act of 2011, which would temporarily allow veterans to receive GI Bill payments greater than the $17,500 cap introduced in October 2010. The bill is designed to prevent already-enrolled students at high-cost schools from facing out-of-pocket tuition costs, according to an April press release from the bill's sponsor Jeff Miller (Florida, Rep.).

The other three bills include the Andrew Connolly Veterans' housing act, the establishment of a VetStar Award Program, and a bill regarding veteran-owned small businesses.
