Monitoring emotional health after returning from deployments is a key issue facing thousands of veterans. Recently, the Department of Defense announced the release of a new tool that can help veterans keep track of their emotional health.
Called the T2 Mood Tracker, the tool is a smartphone mobile application that monitors key trends in daily experiences, medication, therapy, environmental changes, and more. Developed by the National Center for Telehealth and Technology (T2), the T2 Mood Tracker can record and monitor a veteran's emotional experiences over a set period of time, from days to weeks and months. The information that is gathered in this tool can be used by both physicians and therapists to better monitor and treat veterans' emotional health.
"Research has shown that information collected after the fact, especially about mood, tends to be inaccurate," says Perry Bosmajian, a psychologist with T2, "This application can improve the quality of the treatments for the provider and the patient. The best record of an experience is when it's recorded at the time and place it happens."
Currently, the T2 Mood Tracker is only available on phones running the Android operating system. T2 expects an iPhone application be available early next year.
