Officials at the Department of Defense (DoD) announced an extension of the “enrolled by” deadline that military spouses need to meet in order to receive benefits under the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts program (MyCAA). Starting yesterday, spouses can now request MyCAA benefits for classes that start before January 31st rather than January 15th, the previous deadline.
The DoD states that the change in the enrollment deadline is a result of feedback from program participants and schools. "We appreciate the feedback from military spouses currently participating in the MyCAA career advancement program,” said Robert L. Gordon III, deputy undersecretary of defense for military community and family policy in an American Forces Press Services article. Additionally, Gordon continued that many schools have later start dates for the spring semester than the January 15th date allowed, and that by extending the enrollment deadline more spouses will be given the opportunity to attend courses that are eligible for MyCAA funds.
It’s important to note, however, that other important enrollment deadlines such as the October 21st deadline to submit the initial request financial assistance still stand. Upcoming deadlines to know include:
