The Department of Defense recently announced that Delaware, Rhode Island, New York, Washington, and Massachusetts were approved for waivers for the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act (MOVE). The MOVE act requires states to send absentee ballots to overseas and military voters covered by the Uniformed and Overseas Absentee Act within 45 days before federal office elections--beginning with the November 2, 2010 election.
In turn, states are allowed to file exemption waivers and twelve states filed waivers. Says Bob Carey, director of the Federal Voting Assistance Program, "The states granted waivers presented thorough and comprehensive plans to protect the voting opportunities for military and overseas voters."
