Two medical education organizations and 130 medical schools have pledged to provide medical training to better address the specific health care issues faced by military personnel and their families. The announcement came as part of First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden's Joining Forces initiative.
The Association of American Medical Colleges, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine and medical schools across the nation agreed to use their expertise in education, research and clinical care to train U.S. physicians in the distinct health care needs of veterans, servicemembers and their families.
"By directing some of our brightest minds, our most cutting-edge research and our finest teaching institutions toward our military families, they're ensuring that those who have served our country receive the first-rate care that they have earned," Obama said.
The Joining Forces initiative aims to mobilize all sectors of society to provide support and opportunities for servicemembers and their families. For more information, see the press release.
