Hiring Heroes Act Aims to Ease Veteran Unemployment

Sen. Patty Murray, chairman of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee, announced new legislation today to help unemployed veterans find work in the civilian job market. According to the Senate Committee's press release, one in four veterans aged 20-24 are unemployed. Chairman Murray's
Hiring Heroes Act of 2011 includes efforts to improve the transition that service members experience when they return home and begin looking for work. Highlights of the bill include providing skills training, streamlining hiring into federal positions and supporting mentorship programs for veterans in the workforce.
