In January, the Department of Defense (DoD) extended the application deadline for the Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay (RSLSP) program a second time, to next Friday, March 4, 2011. Last week, the DoD reported that of the estimated 145,000 eligible servicemembers and families, only 77,000 claims have been paid so far.
RSLSP is designed to compensate servicemembers whose service time was extended involuntarily under Stop Loss Authority between September 11, 2001 and September 30, 2009. In order to receive the $500/month of extended service, eligible individuals must submit a claim to their specific military branch. To determine eligibility, servicemembers are advised to contact the officials within their service branch.
