Department of Defense Announces "Absentee Voting Week"

The Department of Defense recently declared September 27 to October 4 to be "Absentee Voting Week." Citizens voting under the Uniformed and Overseas Absentee Voting Act, who have not received their absentee ballots, are encouraged to use http://www.FVAP.gov to fill out their ballots as soon as possible.

Says Clifford Stanley, undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, "We encourage all military personnel, their family, and overseas citizens to exercise their right to vote."

Electronic alternatives to mailing ballots is a new initiative under the Federal Assistance Program, designed to make the absentee voting process easier, more effective, and more efficient. For overseas military members and their families, it's not too late to vote -- even if they have not received their ballots.

"This year," Stanley continues, "the states and FVAP launched new online products that make completing absentees ballots much easier."
