In 2009, the Department of Defense (DoD) launched the Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay (RSLSP) program. RSLSP was designed to provide compensation to servicemembers whose service time was involuntarily extended between September 11, 2001 and September 30, 2009 as part of Stop Loss.
The DoD announced on Monday that the deadline to apply to RSLSP has been extended to December 18. Eligible servicemembers, veterans, or their dependents must submit a claim in order to get the $500 per month or partial month served while in Stop Loss status.
Because a large portion of the estimated 145,000 eligible servicemembers have separated from the military, the Department of Defense started a series of outreach efforts, including social media, videos, and direct mail campaigns to raise awareness about the program.
