The Department of Veterans Affairs recently announced it selected the construction contractor for the new medical center to be built in Denver, Colorado. The Denver VA Medical Center will be located on the University of Colorado Hospital Complex in Aurora.

The new center will be a joint venture between the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Buckley Air Force Base/Department of Defense, as the Department of Defense will have its own clinic on the fourth floor of a clinic building.

A $1,313,100 contract was awarded to the joint venture of Kiewit-Turner and calls for pre-construction services and an architect/engineering team to design the 1.126 million square foot facility with 206 beds. The state-of-the-art facility will also include a 30-bed nursing home living center, a 30-bed spinal cord injury unit.

Says Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki, "This new hospital demonstrates out continued commitment to serve America's Veterans with the finest facilities and health care models."
