In a joint appearance, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama announced today that a group of more than 200 companies had agreed to hire 25,000 veterans and military spouses.
The announcement was made at Joint Base Langley-Eustis during a stop on President Obama's tour to raise support for his jobs bill.
President, First Lady urge more in private sector to hire veterans
The American Logistics Association, a group of manufacturers that includes companies such as Tyson Foods, Coca Cola and ConAgra, pledged to hire 25,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of 2013.
"They're making these hires not just because it's the right thing to do or the patriotic thing to do," said Michelle Obama. "They're doing it because it's good for their bottom line. They know that these veterans and military spouses represent the best, and they want them on their team."
The program is part of the Joining Forces initiative led by Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden. It represents one quarter of the 100,000 veterans and military spouses the President has asked the private sector to hire through 2013. For more information, see the White House press release.
