Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, Ohio, is known as one of the most diverse bases in the Air Force. It has a workforce of 24,000--10,000 of whom are researchers, scientists and engineers--making it the fifth largest employer in Ohio. The 88th Air Base Wing, Aeronautical System Center and 445th Reserve Airlift Wing call Wright-Patterson AFB home. In addition to designing, modifying and testing weapons systems of the future, the base hosts the Air Force Institute of Technology and Air Force Museum. The city of Fairborn offers servicemembers more than fifteen parks and recreation areas where year-round activities abound including free concert events, nature trails, and heirloom gardens.
