Colleges Near Whiteman Air Force
Whiteman Air Force base is located in Knob Noster, Missouri, about sixty miles southeast of Kansas City, where it hosts the 509th Bomb Wing and 442nd Reserve Fighter Wing. It was established after the attack on Pearl Harbor and in the 1940s was considered a location for the Air Force Academy. In 1955 it was named in honor of 2nd Leuitenant George A. Whiteman who was one of the first American airmen to be killed in combat during World War II.
The city of Knob Noster is small, with only about 2,400 residents. It is the home to Knob Noster State Park which offers visitors biking and horse-riding trails, lakeside retreats, and lakes for fishing and non-motorized boating.
