Colleges Near U.S. Naval Academy
The U.S. Naval Academy started out in 1845 as the Naval School. Located on 10 acres on Fort Severn, near Annapolis, MD, the first class had 50 midshipmen taught by seven professors. In 1850, it was renamed to the U.S. Naval Academy. Today, Annapolis has a population of 35,838, the Academy's footprint has grown to 338 acres and it houses a brigade-size student body of 4,000 midshipmen.
The Academy is located in an area rich with American history from the Revolutionary, the War of 1812 and Civil War, so just a short drive away are:
- battlefields
- museums
- Fort McHenry with its 15-star 30' X 42' flag still flying
If you like the performing arts, Annapolis has two theatre venues in the historic district, one of which dates back to the late 1700s.
