Shaw Air Force Base is located in the 681 square-mile city of Sumter, South Carolina. It is home to 5,400 active servicemembers, 11,000 family members and 600 civilian employees. The base boasts the Air Force's largest combat F-16 wing, the 20th Fighter Wing, whose mission is to provide, project and sustain combat-ready air forces.
