Scott Air Force Base is located in St. Clair County Illinois, near Belleville and is about 20 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri. It sprawls across 2,560 acres and is home to roughly 5,800 active duty military and 2,000 Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve members. Scott AFB houses an airport with an 8,000-foot runway, an Air Traffic Control Tower, and 22 home-based aircraft. Named after Corporal Frank S. Scott, the first enlisted person to die in an aviation craft, its primary mission is global mobility.
