At Schriever Air Force Base, you will be part of history. Opened in 1983, Schriever AFB is named in honor of General Bernard A. Schriever, pioneer of the ballistic missile program. Today, Schriever AFB is home to the 50th Space Wing and operates the Air Force Satellite Control Network, charged with launching, operating in orbit, and fixing these devices. Some 6,300 people work at Schriever AFB, located 10 miles east of Colorado Springs.

Schriever AFB has plenty of colleges and education opportunities. The base hosts Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, while Colorado Springs is home to Colorado Technical University, and the University of Colorado. Interesting places to visit in the city of some 400,000 include the Garden of the Gods and the Helen Hunt Falls in the North Cheyenne Cañon Park. Popular activities include hiking, skiing, fishing and exploring historic ranches and pioneer sites.
