Patrick AFB is located on the east coast of Florida, near Melbourne and "surf city," Cocoa Beach, with a population of 11,862. Founded during World War II, Patrick AFB today is home to the Cape Canaveral Air Station and the 45th Space Wing, which manages launch operations for the Department of Defense's space programs.
