Located in North Chicago, IL, Great Lakes has been transforming civilians into well-motivated highly trained sailors since its beginning in 1911. Today, at the Recruit Training school, approximately 40,000 new sailors graduate, along with 4,500 officers commissioned each year. At the service school, another 16,000 sailors receive training in their chosen technical field and graduate. All training happens on 1,628 acres by 25,000 military and civilian personnel.
