Colleges Near Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay
Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay received the Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award in 2007. Originally acquired by the Army in 1954 to be used as an ocean terminal during national emergencies, it transitioned to the Navy in 1978. Construction of the 16,000-acre NSB Kings Bay was the largest to ever be undertaken by the Navy during peacetime.
NSB Kings Bay, 4,000 acres of which is protected wetlands, is home to such endangered species as the manatee, southern bald eagle, and osprey. Its convenient location near I-95 gives it convenient access to Jacksonville, Florida, as well as such tourist destinations as St. Simons Island.

Valdosta State University and Brenau University both have campuses in Kings Bay. NSB Kings Bay's other education options include Central Texas College in Kings Bay and the College of Coastal Georgia in Kingsland.
