Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island is located in Oak Harbor, Washington, overlooking the Olympic Peninsula. The station was originally commissioned in 1941 during World War II for re-arming and refueling of Navy planes. It soon became a warfare training base and eventually became the Navy's West Coast training and operations center for all-weather attack aircraft.
