The Naval Air Station (NAS) North Island is located in San Diego County, California, near the San Diego Bay. It was originally commissioned as a naval air station in 1917 and in 1955 was officially recognized as the "Birthplace of Naval Aviation." It is a Navy installation of Navy Base Coronado, which encompasses eight military institutions on more than 57,000 acres of land.
