McConnell Air Force Base is located in Wichita, Kansas. Originally founded in 1929, the base was renamed McConnell Air Force Base in 1954. McConnell Air Force Base's host unit is the 22nd Air Refueling Wing (ARW). The mission of the 22d Air Refueling Wing is to provide airlift and air refueling capabilities throughout the world. The 22d ARW joins forces in Team McConnell with the 931st Air Refueling Group and the 184th Intelligence Wing of the Kansas Air National Guard to facilitate the mission.
