Colleges Near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar
Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is located in Miramar, a neighborhood in the northern section of San Diego, California. The base is the home of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, the principle aviation unit for the US Marine Corps on the west coast. The base's military history goes back to its time as an Army base in World War I, and it became a major Naval Air Station in 1947.
The fighter pilot training school located there was the basis for the 1986 movie Top Gun. In 1999, the base was handed over to the Marine Corps. The location of the base offers servicemembers stationed there the beauty and convenience of being both in the large city of San Diego and being in the pleasant community of Miramar.
