McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, located in southeastern Oklahoma (near the city of McAlester), is the Defense Department's largest explosive storage facility. The base is spread across 45,000 acres with 1,968 civilian personnel, 31 military personnel, area veterans, Army Reserve and National Guard.

MCAAP has several opportunities to further your education through colleges located in right in the town of McAlester: Eastern Oklahoma State-McAlster and Kiamichi Technology Center-McAlester. You can opt to attend any of the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant colleges within driving distance of the base including: East Central University, Oral Roberts University, and Tulsa Community College.

During off-duty hours, you can visit the two thriving cities in the area: Tulsa (85 miles south) and Oklahoma City (120 miles southeast). Nearby Lake McAlester offers a variety of outdoor recreation including fishing, camping, picnicking, boat ramps, a playground, and 20 miles of shoreline. Other nearby attractions include: Arrowhead State Park, Arrowhead State Park Golf Course, Tannehill Museum, and Pioneer Coal Miner Memorial.
