Fort Stewart is located in Hinesville, a small coastal town in Georgia, about 40 miles southwest from Savannah. It is the largest Army base east of the Mississippi River--covering 279,270 acres which stretches about 39 miles across from east to west, and 19 miles from north to south. Fort Stewart is equipped to train 50,000 reserve soldiers per year.

Soldiers with families wil benefit from Fort Stewart's Fish and Wildlife Division which conducts an annual children's fishing derby that draws children from all over the area; the division also offers plenty of family entertainment activities such as golf tournaments, carnivals, concerts, community marathons and open houses.
