Fort Monroe is scheduled to be turned over to the State of Virginia in late 2011. Army units at Fort Monroe are being relocated primarily to Fort Eustis and Fort Polk. Historic Fort Monroe stands on ground first fortified by Captain John Smith of Jamestown and early colonization fame. An assignment to Fort Monroe allows you to enjoy both amazing historical sites, the Chesapeake Bay and the ocean.
