Located within the city limits of the city of Tucson, Arizona, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base was established as an aircraft landing field in 1925 and has been an active military installation since it was converted to serve the Army Air Force in World War II. It was named for two pilots from the Tucson area who served in World War I. The base houses units that handle a great amount of the training and support activity to keep Air Force operations going around the world. For servicemembers stationed here, Tucson offers a wide range of activities, as a center of culture for the whole region. There are sports events, rodeos, unique festivals, and many, many other recreational opportunities.
