Once known as Brooks City Air Force Base, Brooks City-Base is a city-owned facility for the U.S. Air Force's 311th Human Systems Wing along with its supporting subordinate units. The base was officially closed as an Air Force Base in 2002, when the land was transitioned to local authorities. However, although the units stationed there have been slated for removal since 2007, they remain resident and active, especially in medical training and research activities involving human systems.

Located in the downtown area of San Antonio, TX, the Brooks City-Base education market is a rich one. Service members stationed at the facility will find both large and small universities within a short distance. These include Texas A&M San Antonio, Webster College, San Antonio College, and College Alamo. The area of San Antonio is both military-friendly as well as home to other military facilities, making activities off-base as welcoming as on base.
