Brian, you can’t get the BAH because the Post -9/11 GI Bill will not pay for barber school, however, the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB-AD) will. The exact wording is :
“Not available under the Post-9/11 GI Bill. The GI Bill is available for training at Non-College-Degree Institutions, examples of this type of training are diploma vocational schools such as:
Your monthly entitlement is based on your attendance status:
For example, at a college or vocational school, a full-time student with over three years of service would get $1,368.00 per month. With less than three years of service, the amount drops to $1,111.00 monthly. Out of this money, you would have to pay your own tuition, books and fees.
I’d like to use my chapter 30 GI Bill to attend Hall’s Career Institute in the Florida Keys. I was informed that my chapter 30 covers this. Do I still get the full time ($1,471.00) per month ? (Thats the rate I received in California with the kicker)
Thanks!
Ryan
Yes, with Chapter 30 and your kicker, you will receive the same amount regardless of where you go to school. If you had the Post 9/11, then you would see a change.
With the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30), what you got in CA will be the same as what you’ll get in FL. Location doesn’t affect MGIB payments as it does with the New GI Bill.
I’M COVERED UN THE POST 9/11. I WAS WANTING TO GO TO BARBER SCHOOL IN RIVERSIDE,CA . DOES THE 9/11 COVER MY SCHOOLING.
Most likely right now it does not, but if you wait until August, it should. The GI Bill 2.0 will allow the Post 9/11 GI Bill to start paying for non-degree courses even if they are taught at a non-degree school.
