How Much Should I Be Getting Paid from My GI Bill?

I’m attending ITT Technical in  San Diego and was told that I should be getting around $1,900 from my GI Bill. Is this true? — Alex

Alex, it depends on which GI Bill you are using. If you are under the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB), then you get up to $1,368 per month. If you participated in the $600 Buy-Up program, you could get an additional $150 per month. If you had any type of kicker, that would increase  your monthly amount again. So, depending on what “add-ons” you have, you could easily get to $1,900. If you just have the base MGIB, then no.

If you are going to school under the Post 9/11 GI Bill, then the VA pays ITT Tech directly for your tuition and fees. You get paid a monthly housing allowance of $1,998 per month and a book stipend up to $1,000 per year. This sounds closer to what you may actually have. You can’t use the Buy-Up with the Post 9/11, but your kickers would be good, if  you have any.
