How Can I Be Sure I’m Signed Up for the Post 9/11 GI Bill?

I am currently active duty (20 years).  I have transferred benefits to my family, with some for myself.  My question is-am I signed up for the Post 9/11 GI Bill?  I can not get a straight answer.  I will retire next year, and will begin Graduate School, and want to ensure I have the correct bill in place.  Thank you, S.

Hi S., If you are sure that your transfer of benefits to your family was approved, then you are on the Post 9/11 GI Bill.  The only GI Bill with the provision to transfer benefits is the Post 9/11 GI Bill.  If your request to transfer benefits was approved, you should have had to extend your period on active duty for a length of time, so if that did not happen, then your request to transfer benefits probably hasn’t been approved.

So, if you know that the transfer was approved, then you should be in good shape.  If there are doubts in your mind as to whether it was approved, then you should go onto the VONAPP website, and fill out the paperwork that you desire to switch to the Post 9/11 GI Bill.  You can submit it over the internet, or you may also call 1-888-442-4551 and talk to a VA rep, and then you may need to reapply for your transfer of benefits.
